Regular Season Round 21: Veilchen - Neuss 93-83

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Veilchen as it allowed them to take a leadership position in North. Veilchen defeated 4th placed TG Neuss in Goettingen 93-83. Veilchen dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to TG Neuss' 40. 28 personal fouls committed by TG Neuss helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was American guard Monique Smalls (168-91, college: Texas Tech) who scored 37 points (!!!), 9 rebounds, 7 assists and 5 steals. Point guard Birte Bencker (176-95) chipped in a double-double by scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Marquita Waller (180-88, college: VCU) who recorded a double-double by scoring 25 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists and power forward Jana Heinrich (188-86, college: San Diego St.) added 22 points and 6 rebounds respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Veilchen (17-4) have an impressive series of ten victories in a row. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Osnabruck. TG Neuss at the other side dropped to the fifth place with eight games lost. They share the position with Opladen. TG Neuss will play next round against strong Wolfpack Wolfenbuettel trying to get back on the winning streak. Veilchen will try to continue on its current victory against seventh ranked Hannover on the road.
