Fifteenth-ranked Pertevniyal (7-19) used its home court advantage to challenge first ranked Denizli (21-5) in Istanbul on Saturday. The visitors from Pamukkale managed to secure only two-point victory 78-76. However their fans expected much easier game. Pertevniyal was trailing by 13 points at halftime but managed to get 2-point lead after three quarters before a 19-15 charge of Denizli, which allowed them to win the game. American Tyler Stone (203-91, college: SE Missouri St.) orchestrated the victory by scoring 25 points and 4 assists. Guard Cevat Ozcan (188-89) contributed with 10 points and 5 assists for the winners. American point guard Alfrie Kelley (183-85, college: S.Carolina) replied with 13 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists and Ahmet Duverioglu (-93) added 17 points and 7 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) in the effort for Pertevniyal. Five Pertevniyal players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Denizli have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 21-5 record. Pertevniyal at the other side keeps the fifteenth place with 19 games lost. They share the position with Afyon and Istanbul DSI. Denizli will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Pertevniyal will play on the road against Gelisim (#7) in Izmir and is hoping to prove to their fans that this time they can win.
