Regular Season Round 29: Hamburg - Kirchheim 75-65

Rather expected game when 10th ranked Kirchheim Knights (12-17) lost on the road to eighth ranked Hamburg (15-14) 75-65 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Hamburg. Kirchheim Knights was better in second period 21-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Hamburg dominated down low during the game scoring 44 of its points in the paint compared to Kirchheim Knights' 24. They outrebounded Kirchheim Knights 38-26 including a 38-26 advantage in defensive rebounds. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Hamburg made 7 blocks. Canadian swingman Terry Thomas (193-91) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 12 rebounds. Center Michael Wenzl (210-91) contributed with 12 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Four Hamburg players scored in double figures. Hamburg's coach Hamed Attarbashi used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. American point guard Bryan Smithson (183-85, college: NC-Asheville) answered with 14 points and 5 assists and the other American import Benjamin Beran (201-84, college: S.Dakota St.) added 13 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Kirchheim Knights. Hamburg moved-up to seventh place, which they share with ETB Wohnbau. Loser Kirchheim Knights keep the tenth position with 17 games lost. Hamburg will face BV Chemnitz 99 (#14) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Kirchheim Knights will play against MLP Academics Heidelberg (#6) and hope to win that game.
