An interesting game took place in Chemnitz where higher ranked Hamburg (15-15) was upset on the court of fourteenth ranked BV Chemnitz 99 (11-19) 85-58 on Saturday. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Hamburg. BV Chemnitz 99 made 24-of-31 free shots (77.4 percent) during the game. They also forced 22 Hamburg turnovers. Hamburg was plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. American point guard Virgil Matthews (188-83, college: Montana, agency: Court Side) scored 16 points, 6 rebounds and 9 assists to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import forward Andre Calvin (201-85, college: Drake) chipped in 18 points and 10 rebounds during the contest. Four BV Chemnitz 99 players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was Canadian swingman Terry Thomas (193-91) with 10 points and 5 rebounds and center Michael Wenzl (210-91) scored 9 points and 7 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. BV Chemnitz 99 moved-up to twelfth place, which they share with Finke Baskets. Newly promoted Hamburg dropped to the eighth position with 15 games lost.
