Eleventh-ranked Trabzonspor (10-14) used its home court advantage to challenge fourth ranked Karsiyaka (15-9) on Saturday. The visitors from Karsiyaka managed to secure only two-point victory 75-73. However their fans expected much easier game. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 20-9. But Trabzonspor won third quarter 18-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Strangely Trabzonspor outrebounded Karsiyaka 44-28 including 31 on the defensive glass. The winners were led by American point guard Bobby Dixon (178-83, college: Troy, agency: Beo Basket) who scored that evening 14 points and 9 assists and Colombian-Spanish power forward Juan Palacios (206-85) supported him with 16 points. Even a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds by Bulgarian power forward Kaloyan Ivanov (205-86, agency: Beo Basket) did not help to save the game for Trabzonspor. American swingman Sean Marshall (198-85, college: Boston Coll., agency: Beo Basket) added 16 points and 10 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Karsiyaka maintains fourth position with 15-9 record. Trabzonspor lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the eleventh place with 14 games lost. They share the position with Istanbul BSB. Karsiyaka will meet at home Tofas (#15) in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Trabzonspor will play against Galatasaray (#5) in Istanbul and hope to secure a win.
