Very predictable result when third ranked Neptunas (27-6) won against on the road bottom-ranked Mazeikiai (3-31) 71-59 on Saturday. The guests trailed by 4 points at the halftime before their 39-23 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Neptunas made 19-of-24 free shots (79.2 percent) during the game. Mazeikiai was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Quite impressive performance for forward Donatas Zavackas (203-80, college: Pittsburgh) who helped to win the game recording 13 points and 6 rebounds. Guard Martynas Mazeika (192-85, agency: Interperformances) contributed with 10 points for the winners. Neptunas' coach Kazys Maksvytis used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Power forward Giedrius Staniulis (205-91) replied with 8 points and 10 rebounds (perfect from the field making all six shots) and the former international guard Darius Pakamanis (192-81) added 11 points in the effort for Mazeikiai. Neptunas maintains third position with 27-6 record having just two points less than leader Lietuvos rytas. Mazeikiai lost fourth consecutive game. Newly promoted team stay dead last with 31 lost games. Neptunas will face Nevezis (#9) in Kedainiai in the next round where they are favorite.
