Regular Season Round 24: Turk Telekom - Istanbul BSB 88-89

Important game to mention about took place in Ankara. Twelfth ranked Istanbul BSB (10-14) saved a 1-point victory on the road edging higher ranked Turk Telekom (11-13) 89-88 on Sunday evening. It looked good early as Turk Telekom took a 12-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Istanbul BSB had a 32-11 second period charge getting the lead and Turk Telekom was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 88-89. They outrebounded Turk Telekom 42-24 including a 14-2 advantage in offensive rebounds. Istanbul BSB players were unselfish on offense dishing 26 assists. Turk Telekom was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Michael Jenkins (193-86, college: Winthrop) who helped to win the game recording 27 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists and American-Bosnian guard Zack Wright (191-85, college: Central Mo.) who added 21 points, 10 rebounds and 8 assists during the contest. The best for the losing side was American center Chris Johnson (210-85, college: LSU) with 17 points and 9 rebounds (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) and his fellow American import guard Michael Roll (197-87, college: UCLA) scored 24 points (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). Five Turk Telekom players scored in double figures. Turk Telekom's coach Ercument Sunter rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Istanbul BSB moved-up to eleventh place, which they share with Trabzonspor. Turk Telekom at the other side dropped to the tenth position with 13 games lost. Istanbul BSB will play against higher ranked Royal Hali (#8) in Gaziantep in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Turk Telekom's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Ankara to the arena TED Kolejliler.
