Regular Season Round 25: Mersin - Fenerbahce 48-77
Date: April 1, 2015
There was no surprise when 10th ranked Mersin (8-17) was crushed at home by third ranked Fenerbahce (19-6) 77-48 on Wednesday. The game was mostly controlled by Fenerbahce. Mersin managed to win fourth quarter 14-13. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Mersin 45-28 including a 35-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. American center Tina Charles (193-88, college: Connecticut) stepped up and scored 18 points and 8 rebounds (perfect from the field making all six shots) for the winners and the former international center Quanitra Hollingsworth (196-88, college: VCU) chipped in 7 points and 11 rebounds. Fenerbahce's coach Jacek Winnicki felt very confident using 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side Bulgarian-American point guard Doneeka Hodges-Lewis (175-82, college: LSU, agency: LBM Management) responded with 19 points and American point guard Samantha Prahalis (170-90, college: Ohio St., agency: LBM Management) scored 11 points and 4 assists. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Fenerbahce. They maintain third place with 19-6 record having four points less than leader Galatasaray. Mersin lost their fifth game in a row. They keep the tenth position with 17 games lost. They share it with Canik Bld. Fenerbahce will meet at home Edirne (#8) in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Mersin's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Mersin to the arena Adana ASKI.
