Regular Season Round 29: Crailsheim - Ludwigsburg 89-81

There was a surprise result when eighteenth ranked Crailsheim Merlins (6-23) beat at home higher ranked EnBW Ludwigsburg (14-15) 89-81 on Thursday. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 23-12. But EnBW Ludwigsburg won second period 26-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Crailsheim Merlins won last quarter 28-21. They also forced 20 EnBW Ludwigsburg turnovers. Strangely EnBW Ludwigsburg outrebounded Crailsheim Merlins 36-21 including 23 on the defensive glass. EnBW Ludwigsburg was plagued by 31 personal fouls down the stretch. American players dominated also this game. Center Chris Otule (211-90, college: Marquette) orchestrated the victory by scoring 19 points and 7 rebounds. Point guard Garrett Sim (185-90, college: Oregon) contributed with 16 points and 7 assists for the winners. Forward Jon Brockman (201-87, college: Washington) answered with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds and swingman D.J. Kennedy (198-89, college: St.John's) added 13 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for EnBW Ludwigsburg. Five Crailsheim Merlins and four EnBW Ludwigsburg players scored in double figures. EnBW Ludwigsburg's coach let to play eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Crailsheim Merlins moved-up to seventeenth place. Loser EnBW Ludwigsburg keeps the eighth position with 15 games lost. Crailsheim Merlins will have a break next round.
