Regular Season Round 35: Nevezis - Neptunas 85-88

Ninth-ranked Nevezis (7-28) gave a tough game to third ranked Neptunas (28-6) in Kedainiai. The visitors from Klaipeda managed to secure only three-point victory 88-85. However their fans expected much easier game. The guests were already 11 points ahead after 3 quarters before a 20-12 Nevezis' run in the last quarter cut the lead to 88-85 at the end of the game. Neptunas shot the lights out from three nailing 18 long-distance shots on high 64.3 percentage. It was an exceptional evening for guard Mindaugas Girdziunas (188-89) who led the winners and scored 23 points and 4 assists. The former international forward Deividas Gailius (200-88) accounted for 13 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists for the winning side. Neptunas' coach Kazys Maksvytis allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. American guard Markus Monroe (188-89, college: Wayland Baptist) came up with 11 points, 6 rebounds, 8 assists and 4 steals and the other American import guard Rod Camphor (191-92, college: SW Oklahoma St., agency: Octagon Europe) added 14 points and 7 assists respectively for Nevezis in the defeat. Four Neptunas and five Nevezis players scored in double figures. Neptunas maintains third place with 28-6 record having just two points less than leader Lietuvos rytas. Nevezis at the other side keeps the ninth position with 28 games lost. Neptunas will play against Siauliai (#7) at home in the next round. Nevezis will play against Tonybet in Prienai and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
