Very expected game when 18th ranked Crailsheim Merlins (7-26) were defeated at home by sixth ranked Deutsche Bank Skyliners (21-14) 66-59 on Wednesday. The guests trailed by 4 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 8-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 66-59. International center Johannes Voigtmann (210-92) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 13 rebounds for the winners and American guard Justin Cobbs (191-91, college: California) chipped in 18 points and 6 assists (went 11 for 11 at the free throw line !!!). Four Deutsche Bank Skyliners players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American point guard Garrett Sim (185-90, college: Oregon) with 17 points and the other American import power forward Stevie Johnson (198-78, college: Iowa St.) scored 7 points and 12 rebounds. Crailsheim Merlins' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Deutsche Bank Skyliners have a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to fifth place. Crailsheim Merlins lost third consecutive game. They stay dead last with 26 lost games. Deutsche Bank Skyliners will face Walter Tigers (#14) in Tuebingen in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Crailsheim Merlins will play on the road against Artland Dragons (#11) in Quakenbrueck and hope to win that game.
