Regular Season Round 25: Lukoil Acad. - Levski Sofia 101-88

The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Sofia: Lukoil Acad. (#1) and Levski Sofia (#3). Lukoil Acad. (21-1) won against visiting Levski Sofia (14-8) 101-88. The game was mostly controlled by Lukoil Acad.. Levski Sofia managed to win third quarter 23-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Lukoil Acad. forced 19 Levski Sofia turnovers. They shot the lights out from three sinking 14 long-distance shots on high 51.9 percentage. Lukoil Acad. looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. American point guard Terry Smith (185-86, college: Mercyhurst) fired 35 points (!!!) and 5 assists for the winners. His fellow American import point guard Dee Brown (185-84, college: Illinois) chipped in a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 assists. Four Lukoil Acad. players scored in double figures. International Pavel Ivanov (200-88, agency: Interperformances) produced 43 points (!!!) and Aleks Simeonov (200-93) added 22 points and 5 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Lukoil Acad. have an impressive series of eight victories in a row. They maintain first place with 21-1 record. Defending champion Levski Sofia keeps the third position with eight games lost. They share it with Cherno More. Lukoil Acad. are looking forward to face Chernomorets (#8) in Burgas in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Levski Sofia will play at home against Rilski (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
