There was no surprise in Izmir where 15th ranked Istanbul DSI (9-22) was defeated by eighth ranked Gelisim (18-13) 75-63 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 5 points at the halftime before their 44-27 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Gelisim looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. American center Marvin Jefferson (206-86, college: Idaho) fired a double-double by scoring 20 points, 17 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Erdi Gulaslan chipped in 14 points and 5 rebounds. Surinamese-Dutch guard Charlon Kloof (190-90, college: St.Bonaventure) produced a double-double by scoring 24 points and 10 rebounds and American forward Esian Henderson (206-86, college: Central Mo.) added 10 points and 9 rebounds respectively for lost side. Four Istanbul DSI players scored in double figures. Istanbul DSI's coach Ali Burgul tested eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Gelisim have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Meliksah and Yesilgiresun. Loser Istanbul DSI dropped to the sixteenth position with 22 games lost. Gelisim will face Adanaspor (#9) on the road in the next round. Istanbul DSI will play against the league's second-placed Sakarya BSB (#2) and hope to win that game.
