Regular Season Round 40: Zalgiris - Siauliai 86-65
Date: April 19, 2015
No shocking result in a game when second ranked Zalgiris (33-4) crushed 7th ranked Siauliai (17-21) in Kaunas 86-65. It looked good early as Siauliai took a 2-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Zalgiris had a 24-8 second period charge getting the lead and Siauliai was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 65-86. Zalgiris made 17-of-20 charity shots (85.0 percent) during the game. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. Zalgiris brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. Worth to mention a great performance of Estonian Siim-Sander Vene (201-90) who helped to win the game recording 9 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists and the former international center Robertas Javtokas (211-80, college: Arizona) who added 9 points and 7 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side American power forward Jeff Allen (201-87, college: Virginia Tech) responded with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 11 rebounds and power forward Julius Jucikas (205-89) scored 16 points (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Zalgiris have an impressive nine-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains second position with 33-4 record behind leader Lietuvos rytas. Siauliai lost third consecutive game. Defending champion keeps the seventh place with 21 games lost. Zalgiris will play against Nevezis (#9) in Kedainiai in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Siauliai will play at home against the league's leader Lietuvos rytas and hopes to get back on the winning track.
