Sixth-ranked Beroe (9-14) was very close to win a game against fifth ranked Levski Sofia (15-9) on Sunday. Levski Sofia managed to secure only two-point victory 88-86. However their fans expected easier game. Beroe was trailing by 5 points at halftime but managed to get 1-point lead after three quarters before a 22-19 charge of Levski Sofia, which allowed them to win the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. American guard Brandon Heath (190-84, college: San Diego St.) orchestrated the victory by scoring 20 points and 9 assists. The other American import point guard Jimmie Hunt (187-82, college: Franklin Pierce, agency: Interperformances) contributed with 22 points and 4 assists (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) for the winners. The former international Pavlin Ivanov (194-93, agency: Beo Basket) replied with 21 points and 4 assists and guard Ventsislav Petkov (188-91, agency: Interperformances) added 16 points and 6 assists in the effort for Beroe. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Defending champion maintains fifth position with 15-9 record. Beroe at the other side keeps the sixth place with 14 games lost. Levski Sofia will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Beroe will play at home against Chernomorets (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
