Not a big story in a game when 11th ranked Artland Dragons (14-18) lost to second ranked Brose Baskets (26-5) in Bamberg 77-89 on Friday. The hosts trailed by 5 points at the halftime before their 50-33 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Brose Baskets dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Artland Dragons' 32 and made 20-of-23 free shots (87.0 percent) during the game. Brose Baskets looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The winners were led by American guard Brad Wanamaker (193-89, college: Pittsburgh) who scored that evening 19 points and 4 assists and international Daniel Theis (204-92, agency: Octagon Europe) supported him with 16 points and 6 rebounds. Four Brose Baskets players scored in double figures. Even 13 points by American swingman Brandon Thomas (198-84, college: Massachusetts, agency: Three Eye Sports) did not help to save the game for Artland Dragons. His fellow American import guard Antonio Graves (191-85, college: Pittsburgh, agency: Two Points) added 8 points and 6 assists for the guests. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Brose Baskets maintains second position with 26-5 record behind leader ALBA. Artland Dragons lost sixth consecutive game. They keep the eleventh place with 18 games lost. Brose Baskets will meet ratiopharm Ulm (#5) on the road in the next round. Artland Dragons will play against EnBW Ludwigsburg (#9) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
