Rather expected game in Akdeniz where 18th ranked Mersin (7-26) was defeated by sixteenth ranked Istanbul DSI (10-23) 70-62 on Saturday. The guests were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Strangely Mersin outrebounded Istanbul DSI 37-22 including 29 on the defensive glass. Surinamese-Dutch guard Charlon Kloof (190-90, college: St.Bonaventure) stepped up and scored 19 points for the winners and American forward Esian Henderson (206-86, college: Central Mo.) chipped in 16 points. Istanbul DSI's coach Ali Burgul used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was American-Lebanese swingman Antwain Barbour (196-82, college: Kentucky, agency: Three Eye Sports) with 10 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists and forward Azizcan Ozdemir (201-88) scored 17 points. Four Mersin players scored in double figures. Istanbul DSI maintains sixteenth place with 10-23 record. Mersin lost fourth consecutive game. They stay dead last with 26 lost games. Istanbul DSI will face higher ranked Meliksah (#9) in Kayseri in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Mersin will play on the road against Adanaspor (#7) and hope to win that game.
