Regular Season Round 2: Speyer - Homburg 91-66

There was a minor upset in Dudenhofen where Homburger TG (1-1) was rolled over by Speyer / Schifferstadt (1-1) 91-66. The game was mostly controlled by Speyer / Schifferstadt. Homburger TG was better in second period 20-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Speyer / Schifferstadt dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Homburger TG's 32 and made 16-of-19 charity shots (84.2 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Homburger TG 37-22 including 26 on the defensive glass. Speyer / Schifferstadt players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. They brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. American guard Jennifer Mocanu (172-90) orchestrated the victory by scoring 22 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Forward Philippa Faul (181) contributed with 19 points and 7 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) for the winners. Five Speyer / Schifferstadt players scored in double figures. American power forward Elizabeth Horton (185, college: Valparaiso) replied with 19 points and 7 rebounds and her fellow American import guard Chelsea Meeks (165-92) added 20 points in the effort for Homburger TG. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Speyer / Schifferstadt's next round opponent will be Ladybaskets Wuerzburg on the road. Homburger TG will play against Karlsruhe PS and hope to win that game.
