Regular Season Round 1: Istanbul DSI - Tofas 74-87

Istanbul DSI was not able to use a home court advantage and lost to the opponent from Bursa 87-74 on Saturday night. The game was mostly controlled by Tofas. Istanbul DSI was better in second period 21-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. It was a very good performance for Dominican-American guard Sammy Mejia (198-83, college: De Paul) who helped to win the game recording 19 points and 4 assists. Bulgarian power forward Kaloyan Ivanov (205-86, agency: Beo Basket) contributed with 19 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Four Tofas players scored in double figures. American forward Mikael Hopkins (206, college: Georgetown) answered with 23 points and 9 rebounds and forward Murat Erensoy (202-91) added 11 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Istanbul DSI. Istanbul DSI's coach tested eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Tofas will face Pertevniyal in Istanbul in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Istanbul DSI will play on the road against Afyon in Afyonkarahisar and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
