Regular Season Round 1: Ferro-ZNTU - Khimik 52-86

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Zaporizhya (0-1) in Zaporozhye on Saturday night. Hosts were rolled over by Khimik (1-0) 86-52. The game without a history. Khimik led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 74 of its points in the paint compared to Zaporizhya's 34. Khimik forced 22 Zaporizhya turnovers and outrebounded them 40-25 including a 26-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. American point guard Branden Frazier (190-92, college: Fordham) stepped up and scored 18 points, 6 rebounds and 9 assists for the winners and the former international forward Vladimir Konev (201-89) chipped in 18 points and 6 rebounds. Four Khimik players scored in double figures. At the losing side guard Alexander Rybalko (190-79) responded with 8 points and 8 rebounds and guard Oleg Rudakov (190-94) scored 10 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Khimik is looking forward to face Mykolaiv in Mykolaiv in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Zaporizhya will play at home against Bipa Basket and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
