Regular Season Round 1: Gelisim - Gediz 84-92

Gelisim was not able to use a home court advantage and was defeated by the opponent from Gediz 92-84 on Saturday night. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 29-17. But Gelisim won second period 28-24. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Gediz made 24-of-31 free shots (77.4 percent) during the game. They shot the lights out from three sinking 13 long-distance shots on high 61.9 percentage. Gediz looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Gelisim was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a very good performance for power forward Orbay Kaya (205-82) who helped to win the game recording 19 points and 6 assists. Guard Serhat Ugur (192-85) contributed with 23 points (perfect behind the arc making all six shots !!!) for the winners. point guard Emir Gokalp (185-95) answered with 20 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals and American center Marvin Jefferson (206-86, college: Idaho) added 11 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Gelisim. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Gelisim's coach Arda Vekiloglu tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Gediz will face Sakarya BSB in Sakaraya in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Gelisim will play on the road against Akhisar Bld and hope to win that game.
