Regular Season Round 5: Zalgiris - Neptunas 81-71
Date: October 11, 2015
An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Kaunas. Leader Zalgiris faced 3rd placed Neptunas. Host Zalgiris (4-0) defeated guests from Klaipeda (2-2) 81-71. The game was mostly controlled by Zalgiris. Neptunas managed to win third quarter 21-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Zalgiris won last quarter 22-14. The best player for the winners was Greek power forward Ian Vougioukas (212-85, college: St.Louis) who scored 14 points and 7 rebounds. The former international point guard Mantas Kalnietis (195-86, agency: Interperformances) chipped in 10 points. Four Zalgiris players scored in double figures. American power forward Jerai Grant (203-89, college: Clemson) produced a double-double by scoring 15 points and 12 rebounds and the other American import Daniel Ewing (191-83, college: Duke) added 14 points and 6 assists respectively for the guests. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Zalgiris have a solid series of four victories in a row. Defending champion keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Lietuvos rytas. Neptunas at the other side dropped to the fourth place with two games lost. They share the position with P.Zvaigzdes and Juventus. Zalgiris is looking forward to face Juventus in Utena in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Neptunas will play at home against Vytautas and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
