Regular Season Round 3: Wuerzburg - Speyer 56-79

Very significant was Speyer / Schifferstadt's (#5) 23-point road victory against Ladybaskets Wuerzburg in South 79-56. The game was mostly controlled by Speyer / Schifferstadt. Ladybaskets Wuerzburg was better in fourth quarter 26-22. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Speyer / Schifferstadt dominated on the defensive end, holding Ladybaskets Wuerzburg to just 6 points in third quarter. Speyer / Schifferstadt dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Ladybaskets Wuerzburg's 22. They outrebounded Ladybaskets Wuerzburg 49-23 including a 17-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was an exceptional evening for American guard Jennifer Mocanu (172-90) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 12 points, 7 rebounds and 10 assists. Canadian forward Kathryn Verboom (179-86) accounted for 16 points and 5 rebounds for the winning side. Five Speyer / Schifferstadt players scored in double figures. Canadian guard Kristine Lalonde (178-91, college: Vermont) came up with 10 points and guard Franziska Kirchhoff (168-97) added 7 points and 5 rebounds respectively for Ladybaskets Wuerzburg in the defeat. Ladybaskets Wuerzburg's coach gave up on the game allowing to play eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Speyer / Schifferstadt will play against ASC Theresianum Mainz (#12) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Ladybaskets Wuerzburg will play against Karlsruhe PS (#11) to get more than just one victory in their record.
