Regular Season Round 4: Alba Iulia - Timisoara 74-47

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Alba Iulia. Second ranked Alba Iulia faced one of their biggest challengers Timisoara. Host Alba Iulia (3-1) smashed guests from Timisoara (2-2) 74-47. It was a key game for the second position in the league. It looked good early as Timisoara took a 5-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Alba Iulia had a 19-9 second period charge getting the lead and Timisoara was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 47-74. Alba Iulia dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Timisoara's 40. Alba Iulia forced 19 Timisoara turnovers and outrebounded them 50-27 including a 19-2 advantage in offensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 29 assists comparing to just 15 passes made by Timisoara's players. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Mariah King (188-90, college: E.Illinois) who helped to win the game recording 24 points and 9 rebounds. FYR Macedonian Jelena Antic (187-91, college: Liberty) contributed with a double-double by scoring 14 points, 11 rebounds and 8 assists for the winners. Four Alba Iulia players scored in double figures. Alba Iulia's coach Miroslav Popovic felt very confident using 10 players and allowed the starting five to rest. Serbian swingman Jovana Jaksic (178-92) replied with 11 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists and American swingman Brianna Wilson (193-92, college: Mass.-Lowell, agency: PEPI SPORT) added 9 points and 10 rebounds in the effort for Timisoara. Alba Iulia have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 3-1 record behind leader Sf.Gheorghe. Timisoara at the other side dropped to the sixth place with two games lost. They share the position with Alexandria and Galati. Alba Iulia will play against CSM Targoviste (#9) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Timisoara will have a break next round.
