Regular Season Round 2: Afyon - Istanbul DSI 83-80

Date: October 17, 2015
A very interesting game took place in Afyonkarahisar. It ended with only three-point defeat on the road of Istanbul DSI (0-2) to Afyon (1-1) 83-80 on Saturday evening. Host team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 27-18. But Istanbul DSI won second period 20-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Americans were the main players on the court. Guard Marcus Hall (185-85, college: Colorado) orchestrated the victory by scoring 25 points and 7 assists. Center David Weaver (207-87, college: Wake Forest) contributed with 16 points and 8 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) for the winners. Forward Mikael Hopkins (206, college: Georgetown) replied with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds and point guard Derek Williams (185-85, college: SMU) added 19 points in the effort for Istanbul DSI. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Afyon's next round opponent will be Pertevniyal in Istanbul. Istanbul DSI will play at home against Socar Petkim and hope to win that game.
