Very expected game when Mersin (0-2) was defeated at home by Fenerbahce (2-0) 79-74 on Saturday. The guests trailed by 11 points after first quarter, but they rallied back getting tie in the second period and winning the second half and won the game by 5 points. Fenerbahce made 23-of-30 free shots (76.7 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was Hungarian-American guard Allie Quigley (178-86, college: De Paul) who scored 29 points. International point guard Birsel Vardarli (175-84) chipped in 12 points. American Angel McCoughtry (187-86, college: Louisville) produced 25 points and 9 rebounds and her fellow American import guard Bria Hartley (173-92, college: Connecticut) added 17 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for the hosts. Four Mersin players scored in double figures. Fenerbahce will face Botas (#6) in Adana in the next round where they are favorite. Mersin will play on the road against Edirne (#13) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
