Regular Season Round 7: Zalgiris - Lietuvos rytas 79-70

The most important game of round 7 took place in Kaunas between two undefeated teams where Zalgiris beat Lietuvos rytas (5-1) 79-70 on Sunday night. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Lietuvos rytas. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Lietuvos rytas trailed by 13 points at halftime and as many as 17 after three quarters before a 25-17 last quarter charge cut the deficit to 70-79 at the end of the game. It was a great evening for the former international point guard Mantas Kalnietis (195-86, agency: Interperformances) who led his team to a victory scoring 13 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists. The former international Paulius Jankunas (205-84) helped adding 17 points and 6 rebounds. At the losing side the former international center Antanas Kavaliauskas (208-84, college: Texas A&M, agency: Interperformances) responded with 16 points and 9 rebounds and Argentinian point guard Nicolas Laprovittola (193-90) scored 17 points and 4 assists. Lietuvos rytas' coach Marcelo Nicola rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Zalgiris (6-0) have an impressive series of six victories in a row. Defending champion (6-0) keeps a position of league leader. Lietuvos rytas at the other side dropped to the second place with one game lost. They share the position with Vytautas. They were replaced at the leadership position by Zalgiris. Lietuvos rytas will play next round against strong Neptunas trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Zalgiris will try to continue on its current victory against seventh ranked P.Zvaigzdes in Pasvalys.
