Regular Season Round 8: Nevezis - Juventus 80-81

The most exciting game of round 8 in the LKL took place in Kedainiai. This derby game ended with only one-point home defeat of 8th ranked Nevezis (2-5) to fourth ranked Juventus (4-4) 81-80 on Saturday evening. Nevezis was trailing by 5 points at halftime but managed to get 2-point lead after three quarters before a 25-22 charge of Juventus, which allowed them to win the game. They dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Nevezis' 34. Juventus forced 19 Nevezis turnovers. 29 personal fouls committed by Nevezis helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was forward Edgaras Zelionis (201-89) who scored 14 points and 6 rebounds. Power forward Arminas Urbutis (206-86, college: Hofstra, agency: Octagon Europe) chipped in 14 points. Four Juventus players scored in double figures. point guard Darius Gvezdauskas (191-88) produced 20 points and center Mindaugas Kupsas (217-91, agency: Octagon Europe) added 14 points and 8 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Juventus maintains fourth position with 4-4 record. Nevezis at the other side dropped to the seventh place with five games lost. They share the position with Siauliai and P.Zvaigzdes. Juventus are looking forward to face Lietkabelis (#6) in Panevezys in the next round. Nevezis will play at home against the league's leader Zalgiris and is hoping to prove to their fans that this time they can win.
