Regular Season Round 10: Perlas-MRU - Mazeikiai 81-74

Round 10 in NKL means a new league leader. The biggest surprise took place in Vilnius where host Perlas-MRU (4-6) beat league's leader Mazeikiai (8-2) 81-74 on Saturday evening. Mazeikiai was trailing by 1 point at halftime but managed to get 8-point lead after three quarters before a 26-11 charge of Perlas-MRU, which allowed them to win the game. They also forced 19 Mazeikiai turnovers. 27 personal fouls committed by Mazeikiai helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Swingman Tautvydas Pipiras (198-93) fired 16 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Guard Margiris Normantas (194-96) chipped in 15 points and 7 assists. Perlas-MRU's coach Arvydas Gronskis used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The former international guard Darius Pakamanis (192-81) produced 12 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists and guard Sarunas Vingelis (192-89) added 17 points respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Perlas-MRU moved-up to eighth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Mazeikiai at the other side dropped to the second position with two games lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Suduva-Mantinga. Mazeikiai will play next round against league's leader Suduva-Mantinga trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Perlas-MRU will try to continue on its current victory against tenth ranked Silute on the road.
