Regular Season Round 10: Zalgiris II - Vytis 92-80

Very important is a road loss of third ranked Vytis (6-4) against seventh ranked Zalgiris II (6-4) on Saturday night. Visiting Vytis was defeated by Zalgiris II in Kaunas 92-80. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Vytis. It looked good early as Vytis took a 4-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Zalgiris II had a 25-19 second period charge getting the lead and Vytis was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 80-92. Zalgiris II dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Vytis' 30. They outrebounded Vytis 41-24 including 27 on the defensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of power forward Laurynas Birutis (210-97) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 12 points and 17 rebounds. Guard Kristupas Zemaitis (191-96) contributed with 19 points and 7 assists for the winners. Five Zalgiris II players scored in double figures. Zalgiris II's coach Tomas Masiulis allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Forward Marijus Uzupis (197-93) replied with 20 points and 8 rebounds and guard Paulius Beliavicius (194-88) added 18 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists in the effort for Vytis. Zalgiris II moved-up to fourth place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Vytis. Zalgiris II will play against Petrochema (#5) in Jonava in the next round. Vytis will play at home against Rasai and hopes to get back on the winning track.
