Regular Season Round 5: Chaika - DVUFK 97-95

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of undefeated DVUFK (1-1) in Berdiansk. Visitors were edged by Chaika (3-0) 97-95. DVUFK was ahead by 5 points after three quarters before a 27-20 charge of Chaika, which allowed them to win the game. They dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to DVUFK's 32. Chaika players were unselfish on offense dishing 33 assists. DVUFK was plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. Center Olga Yatskovets (183-97) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 38 points (!!!), 11 rebounds and 5 assists. The former international swingman Iryna Tsekova (177-78) contributed with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 6 rebounds and 11 assists for the winners. Guard Xeniya Afanasyeva (173-93) answered with 31 points and 6 assists (was perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line !!!) and guard Ksenia Kirichenko (173-87) added 26 points and 6 assists in the effort for DVUFK. Four DVUFK players scored in double figures. Chaika maintains first place in League with 3-0 record. DVUFK at the other side dropped to the third position with one game lost. Chaika will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. DVUFK will play on the road against the league's second-placed HAI in Kharkov and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
