Regular Season Round 12: Utena - Suduva 75-73

The game had a very big importance for third-ranked Utena as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Utena edged second-best Suduva at home 75-73. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Suduva. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Suduva was trailing by 7 points at halftime but managed to get 2-point lead after three quarters before a 26-22 charge of Utena, which allowed them to win the game. Worth to mention a great performance of international swingman Marina Solopova (180-90) who helped to win the game recording 19 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists and the former international point guard Rima Valentiene (170-78) who added 14 points during the contest. Utena's coach Alfredas Vainauskas used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. The best for the losing side was the former international power forward Iveta Salkauske (197-82, college: Illinois) with a double-double by scoring 22 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists and international power forward Laura Svaryte (190-92) scored 20 points. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Utena (6-1) have an impressive six-game winning streak. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Kibirkstis-VICI. Suduva at the other side dropped to the third place with two games lost. Suduva will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest in order to get back on the winning path. Utena will try to continue on its current victory against fifth ranked Fortuna in Klaipeda.
