Regular Season Round 8: Schwelm - Itzehoe 74-80

The biggest surprise of round 8 in ProB was guest Itzehoe's (5-3) road victory over SG Schwelmer Baskets (#6) 80-74 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of SG Schwelmer Baskets. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Itzehoe made 7 blocks. 33 personal fouls committed by SG Schwelmer Baskets helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was American guard Courtney Belger (187-89, college: Quincy) who scored 15 points, 9 rebounds and 9 assists. Swingman Adrian Breitlauch (193-93) chipped in 22 points. Five Itzehoe players scored in double figures. Guard Mathias Perl (188-89) produced 18 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists and forward Frederik Henningsen (198-88) added 15 points respectively for the hosts. SG Schwelmer Baskets' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Itzehoe have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to third place in North, which they share with Art.Dragons. SG Schwelmer Baskets at the other side dropped to the ninth position with four games lost. They share it with 4 other teams. Itzehoe is looking forward to face AstroStars (#7) in Bochum in the next round.
