Regular Season Round 7: Vrsac - Crvena Zvezda 64-52

Very important is a road loss of second ranked Crvena Zvezda (5-2) against seventh ranked ZKK Vrsac (4-3) on Saturday night. Visiting Crvena Zvezda was defeated by ZKK Vrsac in Vrsac 64-52. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Crvena Zvezda. The game was mostly controlled by ZKK Vrsac. Crvena Zvezda was better in second period 13-12. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. ZKK Vrsac held Crvena Zvezda to an opponent 24.2 percent shooting from the field compared to 41.4 percent accuracy of the winners. They outrebounded Crvena Zvezda 44-27 including a 36-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. ZKK Vrsac players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. It was an exceptional evening for the former international forward Marina Mandic (182-83) who led the winners with a triple-double by scoring 27 points, 18 rebounds and 10 assists. Power forward Zaklina Jankovic (190-94, agency: Beo Basket) accounted for 17 points and 11 rebounds for the winning side. point guard Aleksandra Katanic (172-97, agency: Beo Basket) came up with 16 points and Mina Djordjevic (186-99, agency: Beo Basket) added 13 points and 5 rebounds respectively for Crvena Zvezda in the defeat. Crvena Zvezda's coach Dragan Vukovic rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. ZKK Vrsac moved-up to fourth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Crvena Zvezda at the other side keeps the second position with two games lost. They share it with Spartak. ZKK Vrsac will play against league's leader Radivoj Korac in Beograd in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Crvena Zvezda will play on the road against Vojvodina in Novi Sad and hopes to get back on the winning track.
