Regular Season Round 5: Urla BLD - Mersin Univ. 71-85

Not a big story in a game when 8th ranked Urla BLD (2-3) lost to third ranked Mersin Uni (4-1) in Izmir 71-85 on Sunday. Mersin Uni forced 21 Urla BLD turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Ukrainian center Olena Staschuk (192-85) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 12 rebounds. Forward Selvin Turkmen (173-80) contributed with 16 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Mersin Uni's coach used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. American center Molly Schlemer (196-92, college: Cal Poly - SLO) answered with a double-double by scoring 29 points and 14 rebounds (on 13-of-17 shooting from the field) and Sinem Elmas (-94) added 16 points in the effort for Urla BLD. The victory was the third consecutive win for Mersin Uni. They moved-up to second place in Group B, which they share with Osmaniye. Loser Urla BLD keeps the eighth position with three games lost. Mersin Uni will face Istanbulgucu (#7) at home in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Urla BLD will play against TED Ankara and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
