Regular Season Round 8: Gediz - Pertevniyal 85-95

There was a surprise result when twelfth ranked Pertevniyal (4-4) defeated on the road higher ranked Gediz (6-2) 95-85 on Friday. The game was mostly controlled by Pertevniyal. Gediz was better in fourth quarter 26-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Gediz was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Elijah Johnson (190-90, college: Kansas) who helped to win the game recording 24 points and 8 rebounds and swingman Okben Ulubay (200-97) who added 21 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) during the contest. American point guard Demontez Stitt (187-89, college: Clemson, agency: HMS) responded with 24 points and 7 rebounds and power forward Orbay Kaya (205-82) scored 23 points. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Gediz's coach Dogan Deniz tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Pertevniyal moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Balikesir and Socar Petkim. Loser Gediz keeps the third position with two games lost. Pertevniyal will face higher ranked Sakarya BSB (#7) in Sakaraya in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Gediz will play on the road against Meliksah (#14) in Kayseri and hope to win that game.
