Very important is a home loss of third ranked Mersin Uni (4-2) against seventh ranked Istanbulgucu (4-2) on Saturday night. Host Mersin Uni was crushed by Istanbulgucu in Mersin 77-57. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Mersin Uni. Istanbulgucu forced 22 Mersin Uni turnovers and outrebounded them 40-29 including a 17-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. American forward Breanna Brock (187-90, college: Missouri, agency: Gamble Sports Management) notched a double-double by scoring 22 points and 16 rebounds to lead the effort and Gizem Uca (170-94) supported her with 13 points and 6 rebounds. Four Istanbulgucu players scored in double figures. Istanbulgucu's coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Even a double-double of 22 points and 12 rebounds by Ukrainian center Olena Staschuk (192-85) did not help to save the game for Mersin Uni. Gizem Kumandanoglu (-94) added 11 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists. Istanbulgucu moved-up to third place in Group B, which they share with TED Ankara and Mersin Univ. Istanbulgucu will play against TED Ankara (#4) at home in the next round. Mersin Uni will play against Nevsehir GHSIM and hopes to get back on the winning track.
