Regular Season Round 8: Afyon - Gelisim 72-71

There was a small surprise in Afyonkarahisar where fourteenth ranked Afyon (3-5) edged 11th ranked Gelisim (3-5) 72-71 on Saturday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 23-15. But Gelisim won second period 20-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Marcus Hall (185-85, college: Colorado) who helped to win the game recording 17 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists and American-DR Congolese center Bambale Osby (203-86, college: Maryland, agency: Octagon Europe) who added 10 points and 12 rebounds during the contest. Osby is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Afyon players scored in double figures. American center Marvin Jefferson (206-86, college: Idaho) responded with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 13 rebounds and his fellow American import point guard Kendall Anthony (173-93, college: Richmond) scored 14 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line). Afyon moved-up to eleventh place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Gelisim. Afyon will face higher ranked Socar Petkim (#10) at home in the next round and it may be quite challenging game.
