Regular Season Round 7: Balkan - Spartak Pleven 93-76

Everything could happen in Botevgrad at the game between two tied teams. Both second ranked Balkan and 5th ranked Spartak Pleven had identical 4-2 record. This time Balkan used a home court advantage and defeated the opponent from Pleven 93-76 on Saturday night. The game was mostly controlled by Balkan. Spartak Pleven managed to win third quarter 23-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Balkan dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Spartak Pleven's 30 and made 22-of-29 free shots (75.9 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Spartak Pleven 44-32 including 33 on the defensive glass. 24 personal fouls committed by Spartak Pleven helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Serbian power forward Marko Brkic (206-82, agency: Beo Basket) fired a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. American guard Brandon Fortenberry (190-90, college: SE Louisiana, agency: Beo Basket) chipped in 13 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Balkan's coach Vlada Vukoicic used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Power forward Dimitar Marincheshki (200-90) produced a double-double by scoring 10 points and 17 rebounds and the former international guard Aleksandar Gruev (187-83, agency: Global Sports Plaza) added 17 points and 4 assists respectively for lost side. Four Balkan and five Spartak Pleven players scored in double figures. Balkan maintains second place with 5-2 record having just two points less than leader Lukoil Acad., which they share with Cherno More and Beroe. Spartak Pleven at the other side keeps the fifth position with three games lost. They share it with Rilski. Balkan is looking forward to face Levski 2014 (#7) in Sofia in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Spartak Pleven will play at home against Yambol and is hoping to prove to their supporters that this time they can win.
