Regular Season Round 9: Tofas - Acibadem 76-69

The biggest surprise took place in Bursa where host Tofas (9-0) beat league's leader Acibadem (8-1) 76-69 on Tuesday evening. It ended at the same time the eight-game winning streak of Acibadem. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Acibadem won third quarter 17-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Tofas looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The best player for the winners was the former international forward Umit Sonkol (206-82) who scored 17 points and 6 rebounds. Dominican-American guard Sammy Mejia (198-83, college: De Paul) chipped in 14 points and 5 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was naturalized Azerbaijani Orhan Haciyeva (200-89) who recorded a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds and American-Bulgarian point guard Keydren Clark (180-84, college: St.Peter's) added 15 points and 5 rebounds respectively. Tofas have an impressive series of nine victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader. Newly promoted Acibadem dropped to the second place with one game lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Tofas. Acibadem will play next round against Afyon trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Tofas will try to continue on its current victory against fifth ranked Eskisehir Basket in Edirne.
