Regular Season Round 9: Istanbul DSI - Balikesir 79-85

Not a big story in a game when 18th ranked Istanbul DSI (1-8) was defeated at home by ninth ranked Balikesir (5-4) 85-79. The guests were already 11 points ahead after 3 quarters before a 24-19 Istanbul DSI's run in the last quarter cut the lead to 85-79 at the end of the game. The game was dominated by American players. Forward Mike Davis (205-88, college: Illinois) nailed a double-double by scoring 12 points, 13 rebounds and 5 blocks for the winning side and point guard D.J. Thompson (173-85, college: Appalachian St.) accounted for 15 points and 7 assists. Five Balikesir players scored in double figures. Forward Mikael Hopkins (206, college: Georgetown) came up with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 17 rebounds and point guard Derek Williams (185-85, college: SMU) added 24 points and 5 rebounds (went 10 for 10 at the free throw line !!!) respectively for Istanbul DSI in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Balikesir moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Akhisar Bld. Istanbul DSI at the other side stay at the bottom position with eight games lost. Balikesir's next round opponent will be Pertevniyal (#9) in Istanbul. Istanbul DSI will play on the road against Final Genclik (#16) in Bursa and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
