Regular Season Round 9: Pertevniyal - Sakarya BSB 64-72

There was no surprise in Istanbul where 9th ranked Pertevniyal (4-5) was defeated by sixth ranked Sakarya BSB (6-3) 72-64. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 23-14. But Pertevniyal won second period 18-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Sakarya BSB players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Pertevniyal's players. American Sean Evans (203-88, college: St.John's) nailed a double-double by scoring 26 points and 13 rebounds for the winning side and guard Melih Yildiz (194-89, agency: 1x1 Sports) accounted for 19 points. Sakarya BSB's coach Okan Cevik allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. American guard Elijah Johnson (190-90, college: Kansas) came up with 32 points and Berk Demir (203-95) added 16 points and 12 rebounds respectively for Pertevniyal in the defeat. Sakarya BSB moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Eskisehir Basket and Denizli. Pertevniyal at the other side keeps the ninth position with five games lost. Sakarya BSB's next round opponent will be Meliksah (#14) in Kayseri and are hoping to win another game. Pertevniyal will play on the road against Balikesir (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
