Regular Season Round 10: Rovinari - Steaua CSM 79-76

There was a change at the Liga Nationala leadership position after last games. Round 10 most important game was a defeat of league's leader Steaua CSM (6-2). They were edged by tenth ranked CS Energia Rovinari Targu Jiu (4-5) 79-76 on Saturday night. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Steaua CSM. The hosts trailed by 9 points after three quarters before their 25-13 charge, which allowed them to win the game. CS Energia Rovinari Targu Jiu made 24-of-28 free shots (85.7 percent) during the game. Strangely Steaua CSM outrebounded CS Energia Rovinari Targu Jiu 39-25 including 24 on the defensive glass. 24 personal fouls committed by Steaua CSM helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American center Callistus Eziukwu (208-85, college: Grand Valley St.) scored 19 points and 8 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import point guard Jamar Diggs (188-88, college: Wofford, agency: Beo Basket) chipped in 11 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. Five CS Energia Rovinari Targu Jiu players scored in double figures. CS Energia Rovinari Targu Jiu's coach Antonis Konstantinides used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the losing side Ukrainian-American forward Denis Ikovlev (200-86, college: Nevada) responded with 16 points and 9 rebounds and Serbian point guard Marko Marinovic (183-83) scored 14 points and 4 assists. CS Energia Rovinari Targu Jiu moved-up to ninth place. Steaua CSM at the other side dropped to the third position with two games lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Oradea. Steaua CSM will play next round against BC Timisoara trying to make it back to the top of the standings. CS Energia Rovinari Targu Jiu will try to continue on its current victory against sixth ranked Pitesti on the road.
