Regular Season Round 12: Alba Iulia - Sf.Gheorghe 59-62

The most exciting game of round 12 in the Liga Nationala took place in Alba Iulia. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of 4th ranked Alba Iulia (7-4) to top-ranked Sf.Gheorghe (11-0) 62-59 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Alba Iulia. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 15-6. But Alba Iulia won second period 25-20. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Sf.Gheorghe dominated on the defensive end, holding Alba Iulia to just 6 points in first quarter. They made 21-of-24 free shots (87.5 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Alba Iulia 41-25 including 27 on the defensive glass. American players dominated the game. It was a good game for guard Chucky Jeffery (178-91, college: Colorado) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 12 rebounds. Forward Amanda Thompson (178-87, college: Mercer) contributed with 9 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. Forward Asia Logan (183-92, college: Pittsburgh) replied with 17 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists and swingman Adrienne Webb (175-90, college: LSU) added 17 points in the effort for Alba Iulia. Sf.Gheorghe have an impressive 11-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 11-0 record. Alba Iulia at the other side keeps the fourth place with four games lost. Sf.Gheorghe will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Alba Iulia will play on the road against Alexandria (#8) and is hoping to prove to their fans that this time they can win.
