Regular Season Round 11: Bamberg - Rhein MB 72-64

Everything went according to plan when fifth ranked Don Bosco Bamberg (7-4) defeated at home 7th ranked Rhein Main Baskets (5-4) 72-64 on Saturday. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 26-16. But Rhein Main Baskets won third quarter 19-13. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Don Bosco Bamberg made 17-of-22 free shots (77.3 percent) during the game. Don Bosco Bamberg outrebounded Rhein Main Baskets 46-29 including 31 on the defensive glass. Latvian guard Ieva Jansone (180-90, college: Valparaiso) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 12 rebounds. Estonian guard Liisi Sokman (166-88) contributed with 16 points for the winners. American forward Chelsea Small (185, college: Indiana St.) answered with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 13 rebounds and point guard Pia Dietrich (168-94) added 11 points in the effort for Rhein Main Baskets. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Don Bosco Bamberg moved-up to fourth place in South. Loser Rhein Main Baskets keep the seventh position with four games lost. Don Bosco Bamberg will face Weiterstadt (#8) at home in the next round. Rhein Main Baskets will play against Wasserburg II and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
