Regular Season Round 12: Gediz - Tofas 63-76

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Gediz. Top-ranked Tofas faced 4th ranked Gediz. Guests from Bursa (12-0) defeated host Gediz (8-4) 76-63. The game was mostly controlled by Tofas. Gediz managed to win second period 24-23. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The best player for the winners was Bulgarian power forward Kaloyan Ivanov (205-86, agency: Beo Basket) who scored 16 points and 6 rebounds. The former international forward Umit Sonkol (206-82) chipped in 10 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Four Tofas players scored in double figures. Tofas' coach Orhun Ene used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was power forward Orbay Kaya (205-82) who recorded 16 points and 9 rebounds (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) and American point guard Demontez Stitt (187-89, college: Clemson, agency: HMS) added 16 points and 4 assists respectively. Tofas have an impressive 12-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 12-0 record. Gediz at the other side dropped to the fifth place with four games lost. Tofas are looking forward to face Sakarya BSB (#4) in Sakaraya in the next round. Gediz will play on the road against Afyon in Afyonkarahisar and is hoping to prove to their fans that the loss was just an accident.
