Regular Season Round 19: Mazeikiai - Zalgiris II 80-54

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Mazeikiai. Second ranked Mazeikiai faced 4th placed Zalgiris II. Host Mazeikiai (14-4) smashed guests from Kaunas (10-9) 80-54. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Zalgiris II. The game was mostly controlled by Mazeikiai. Zalgiris II was better in third quarter 18-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Worth to mention a great performance of swingman Vytautas Pikalavicius (197-90) who helped to win the game recording 15 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Forward Arvydas Gydra (206-89) contributed with 13 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Four Mazeikiai players scored in double figures. Paulius Valinskas (190-95) answered with 15 points and 5 assists and guard Kristupas Zemaitis (191-96) added 8 points in the effort for Zalgiris II. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Mazeikiai have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They maintain second place with 14-4 record having just three points less than leader Suduva-Mantinga. Zalgiris II at the other side dropped to the sixth position with nine games lost. They share it with Petrochema. Mazeikiai will play against Delikatesas (#9) in Joniskis in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Zalgiris II will play at home against Lietkabelis-2 and hopes to get back on the winning track.
