Regular Season Round 10: Sampaense - Dragon Force 87-80

Date: December 13, 2015
Very important is a road loss of second ranked Dragon Force (6-4) against seventh ranked Sampaense (4-6) on Sunday night. Visiting Dragon Force was defeated by Sampaense in a tough game in Coimbra 80-87. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 22-12. But Dragon Force won second period 24-18. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Sampaense dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Dragon Force's 36. Sampaense forced 19 Dragon Force turnovers. 24 personal fouls committed by Dragon Force helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Power forward Helder Carvalho (205-84, agency: Dynamics Global Management) fired a double-double by scoring 10 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Swingman Joao Costa (187-93) chipped in 17 points and 5 rebounds. point guard Pedro Oliveira (179-97) produced 18 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists and Cape Verdean center Kevin Clay Gomes (209-95) added 9 points and 13 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Dragon Force's coach Joao Perdo Goncalves rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Sampaense have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to fifth place, which they share with 4 other teams. Newly promoted Dragon Force keeps the second position with four games lost. Sampaense's next round opponent will be league's leader Illiabum in Ilhavo and it may be quite challenging game. Dragon Force will play on the road against Esgueira / Oli and hope to win that game.
