Regular Season Round 15: Lietkabelis - Vytautas 87-81

Worth to mention about the upset in a game between Vytautas (8-6) and Lietkabelis (4-9), which took place in Panevezys. 4th placed Vytautas lost to ninth ranked Lietkabelis in a road game 81-87. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Vytautas won third quarter 25-21. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Lietkabelis won last quarter 22-18. They dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Vytautas' 32 and made 19-of-24 charity shots (79.2 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Vytautas 30-19 including 21 on the defensive glass. 24 personal fouls committed by Vytautas helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was Simas Buterlevicius (200-88, agency: Octagon Europe) who scored 27 points (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line). Forward Arturas Valeika (207-85, college: Midland CC) chipped in a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was forward Gytis Sirutavicius (195-83) who recorded 20 points and 4 assists (went 10 for 10 at the free throw line !!!) and international point guard Sarunas Vasiliauskas (187-89) added 17 points respectively. Five Lietkabelis and four Vytautas players scored in double figures. Lietkabelis maintains ninth place with 4-9 record. Vytautas at the other side keeps the fourth position with six games lost. Lietkabelis' next round opponent will be league's second-placed Lietuvos rytas in Vilnius and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Vytautas will play on the road against the league's leader Zalgiris where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
