Regular Season Round 21: Perlas-MRU - Zalgiris II 81-70

Rather expected game in Vilnius where 6th ranked Zalgiris II (11-10) was defeated by fourth ranked Perlas-MRU (13-8) 81-70. It looked good early as Zalgiris II took a 4-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Perlas-MRU had a 21-7 second period charge getting the lead and Zalgiris II was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 70-81. Perlas-MRU dominated on the defensive end, holding Zalgiris II to just 7 points in second quarter. Forward Remigijus Sugintas (200-87) nailed 24 points and 5 rebounds for the winning side and point guard Tomas Galeckas (184-94) accounted for 11 points and 5 assists. Swingman Martynas Varnas (196-97) came up with 18 points and 6 rebounds and power forward Martynas Echodas (204-97) added 13 points and 5 rebounds respectively for Zalgiris II in the defeat. Four Zalgiris II players scored in double figures. Zalgiris II's coach Tomas Masiulis rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. The victory was the third consecutive win for Perlas-MRU. They maintain fourth place with 13-8 record, which they share with Palanga. Zalgiris II at the other side keeps the sixth position with ten games lost. They share it with Petrochema. Perlas-MRU will play against higher ranked Vytis (#3) in Sakiai in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Zalgiris II will play at home against Delikatesas and hopes to get back on the winning track.
